Airbus Delivers 70 Aircraft in March Amid Production Ramp-Up Efforts

Airbus delivered around 70 aircraft to customers in March 2025, representing an 11% increase compared to March 2024.

This marks a significant jump from February 2025, when the European aircraft manufacturer handed over just 40 jets to customers. Its monthly progress report is scheduled for release next week.

Key Points

  • March deliveries are 75% higher than February's 40 units and 180% higher than January's 25 aircraft

  • Airbus aims to deliver 820 jets in 2025, a 7% increase from the 766 aircraft delivered in 2024

  • Current backlog stands at 8,652 aircraft as of February 2025, with nearly 89% being A220 and A320 family narrowbodies

  • Supply chain constraints continue to challenge production increases, particularly for the A350 program

  • Recent significant order from BOC Aviation for 70 A320neo Family aircraft strengthens future delivery pipeline

What It Means

The delivery surge suggests Airbus may be overcoming some supply chain hurdles that have constrained production in recent months.

Though, its 2025 target of 820 deliveries is still below its pre-pandemic record of 863 jets.

2. Boeing Refutes Claims of 737 MAX Production Fluctuations

Boeing has denied a report by The Air Current claiming fluctuations in 737 MAX production.

The aviation publication had stated Boeing reached 38 planes per month in February before dropping to 31 due to wing system installation delays.

Boeing clarified that production never reached 38 units monthly this year, nor has it recently fallen.

3. Boom Supersonic CEO Says US Leads in Supersonic Aviation Race with China

Boom Supersonic CEO Blake Scholl stated that the US is ahead of China in supersonic aircraft technology.

His company's XB-1 prototype is currently the only operational non-military supersonic jet worldwide, having broken the sound barrier in January without generating ground-level sonic booms.

Meanwhile, China's state-owned Comac is developing the C949 supersonic jet, projected to reach Mach 1.6 with a range of 11,000 kilometers.

Scholl urged US regulators to update outdated flight speed restrictions to maintain America's competitive edge.

4. Lufthansa Shifts A350s to Frankfurt Amid Aircraft Delivery Delays

Lufthansa has temporarily deployed four A350-900 aircraft from Frankfurt to address delivery delays of new long-haul jets.

The planes began serving Seoul and Shanghai routes on March 30, with Denver and Seattle services starting May 1 and July 1 respectively.

Two more A350s will join in May and July.

5. Frontier Extends Free Checked Bag Promotion Through Summer Travel Season

Frontier Airlines launched a promotion today offering a free checked bag for flights between April 22 and August 18, 2025.

Travelers must book by April 7 using promo code "FREEBAG" on the airline's website or mobile app.

The deal comes with fares starting at $39 on select routes.

This follows a similar March promotion and coincides with Southwest ending its free checked bag policy.

Frontier is also introducing service upgrades, including UpFront Plus seating and plans for First Class seating later in 2025.

6. Vertical Aerospace Joins Industry Push for Universal eVTOL Charging Standard

Vertical Aerospace announced yesterday it's adopting the Combined Charging Standard (CCS) for its VX4 electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, joining BETA Technologies and Archer Aviation.

This universal fast-charging system will enable rapid battery charging for shuttle operations while ensuring immediate compatibility with all CCS chargers.

The company purchased two BETA chargers for evaluation.

This standardization aligns with the General Aviation Manufacturers Association's recommendations and aims to reduce costs, streamline operations, and accelerate electric aviation adoption across the industry.

7. Sweden Finalizes Deal for Four Embraer C-390 Military Transport Aircraft

Sweden has officially committed to purchasing four C-390 Millennium multi-mission aircraft from Embraer.

The announcement was made at LAAD Defence & Security 2025, following Sweden's agreement to join the Netherlands and Austria in the C-390 program.

Swedish officials praised the aircraft's NATO interoperability and performance in challenging environments. The deal aims to enhance Sweden's military transport capabilities and strengthen European defense collaboration.

The C-390, known for its high payload capacity and versatility, is already in service with several nations and has demonstrated a 93% mission capability rate.

8. ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation Sparks Concerns Among Jet Operators

The EU's ReFuelEU Aviation regulation, effective since January 1, 2025, restricts fuel tankering for large commercial operators flying to or within Europe.

The rule requires airlines to uplift at least 90% of their yearly fuel needs at EU airports.

This poses challenges for business jet operators with unpredictable schedules, potentially impacting flexibility and safety.

The European Business Aviation Association highlights concerns about administrative burdens and increased risks.

The regulation aims to reduce emissions and promote sustainable aviation fuel use, but critics argue it may lead to higher costs and operational complexities.

9. SITA Acquires Italian Airport Design Firm CCM

SITA has acquired Milan-based CCM, an airport interior design firm that has worked on over 300 airports worldwide.

This strategic move combines SITA's air transport technology with CCM's design expertise to create more efficient, tech-integrated airport spaces.

The partnership aims to replace traditional check-in counters and static security areas with smarter layouts that optimize passenger flow.

The acquisition addresses growing airport investments in automation, biometrics, and self-service technologies.

10. uAvionix Launches Compact ADS-B Solution for Experimental Aircraft

uAvionix unveiled the echoESX EXP, a next-generation remotely mounted Mode S ADS-B transponder, at Sun 'n Fun Aerospace Expo on March 25, 2025.

This compact device features an integrated SBAS GPS receiver and seamlessly integrates with AV-30-E and AV-20-E displays.

Building on their tailBeaconX technology, it offers simplified installation using existing transponder antennas.

The experimental aircraft version is available for pre-order now, with shipping beginning summer 2025.

A certified TSO version compatible with AV-30-C displays is expected in early 2026.
