Qatar Airways Planning 100 Boeing Jet Order Ahead of Trump Middle East Tour
Qatar Airways is reportedly in the final stages of securing a landmark deal with Boeing for approximately 100 widebody jets, with options for an additional 100 aircraft.
The announcement is strategically timed to coincide with U.S. President Donald Trump's upcoming Middle East tour beginning May 13, 2025, which includes stops in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
The order is expected to primarily consist of Boeing 787 Dreamliners along with a smaller number of 777X jets.
Key Points
The deal could be valued at roughly $30 billion based on average prices of $300 million per aircraft, potentially reaching $60 billion if all options are exercised
This order represents part of a broader economic package during Trump's Middle East tour that could approach $3 trillion across defense, aviation, and technology sectors
Qatar Airways aims to strengthen its position as a global aviation hub connecting key international destinations through its Doha base
Several Middle Eastern airlines are competing to finalize substantial agreements before Trump's visit, with Riyadh Air also considering up to 50 widebody jets
The order comes amid Boeing's recovery efforts following recent challenges, including losses related to the 737 MAX and trade tensions with China
What It Means
This massive order represents a critical win for Boeing against European rival Airbus in the competitive widebody market, while reinforcing Qatar's aviation ambitions.
The timing aligns with the geopolitical strategy of Gulf states seeking to leverage commercial deals for political capital with the Trump administration.
For the broader industry, this signals continued robust demand for long-haul aircraft despite recent global economic uncertainties.
