China Orders Just 200 Boeing Jets With Promise for 750?
Dear Readers, Welcome to AviationOutlook Newsletter.
Let’s analyze today’s topic in detail.
After nearly a decade without a headline aircraft deal between the U.S. planemaker and its largest growth market, Beijing has finally put pen to paper.
On the sidelines of the Trump-Xi summit in Beijing this week, China reportedly agreed to purchase 200 Boeing jets, with a conditional promise that the figure could rise to as many as 750 aircraft.
The announcement broke in two parts.
President Donald Trump first floated the 200-aircraft number on Fox News on Thursday, May 14, then expanded the framing the next day by telling reporters the order could climb to 750 if Beijing performs to expectations.
For an industry that has watched China drift toward Airbus and accelerate its own COMAC programme, the optics are significant.
The substance, however, is more nuanced than the headline suggests.
So, what exactly is going on?
