SkyWest Airlines Outlook 2024

SkyWest Airlines, a leading regional carrier in the United States, has continued to expand and modernize its fleet in 2024. The airline announced a new flying agreement with United Airlines to operate an additional 20 Embraer E175 aircraft under the United Express brand. These aircraft are financed by United and will join SkyWest’s fleet throughout the year, bringing the total number of E175s operated by SkyWest to 278 by the end of 2026.

In addition to its partnership with United, SkyWest has also secured agreements to fly E175s for Delta Air Lines and Alaska Airlines in the coming years. The airline reported a strong financial performance in the first quarter of 2024, with a net income of $60 million and a 5% increase in block-hour production.

SkyWest has also made strategic moves to address the ongoing pilot shortage. The company acquired a 25% ownership stake in Contour Airlines, a Part 135 operator, to gain access to its infrastructure, personnel, and operational expertise. This partnership is expected to help SkyWest recruit young pilots and provide opportunities for pilots nearing retirement age.

Furthermore, SkyWest confirmed it will begin operating the CRJ-550, a 50-seat variant of the CRJ-700, for Delta Connection starting in July 2024. These aircraft will replace single-class CRJ-200s on select routes out of Delta’s Salt Lake City hub, offering customers a premium two-class experience.

As SkyWest continues to grow and adapt to the evolving aviation landscape, the airline remains focused on delivering excellent operational performance, investing in its workforce, and maintaining strong relationships with its major airline partners.
